Research Associate: Jason Metcalfe

Jason joined the Jubilee Centre in September 2017 as a Research Associate; he is currently working on The Life of the Religious Education Teacher project.

Prior to joining the Centre, Jason worked in Birmingham and Solihull secondary schools as a teacher of religious education, history and geography. In his previous role, Jason also held the position of PSHE co-ordinator. In this position he was responsible for creating and implementing a PSHE programme, focused on the development of virtues in pupils, across all of Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 form groups.

Jason has also recently completed his Master’s Degree, which examined the impact that the Solihull locally agreed syllabus for religious education had on pupil’s perceptions of virtues. He is currently writing his PhD thesis, focused on religious education in England and Wales. His thesis investigates whether there has been an aim of teaching moral virtues through religious education and what impact the subject is having on pupils empirically.
